Friday, February 22nd

3:00 PM Early check-in (hotel guests)

5:00 - 6:30 PM  /  Welcome Reception
Kick off the weekend with a glass of wine and a selection of hors-d'oeuvres accompanied by live music. Located in the hotel lobby at Quill's Lounge.

6:00 PM  /  3-Course Spanish Wine Pairing Dinner $
A 3-course dinner with wine pairings inspired by the diverse region of Spain. Brock Kapper of wine distributor Country Vintner will be on hand to discuss each wine and the food it is paired with. The meal will feature three dishes typically found around Spanish dinner tables such as tapas, paella, Jamón, gazpacho, gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), etc.
Dietary restrictions can be accommodated upon request. 

8:00 PM  /  Movie Showing "Vintage: The Winemaker's Year"
A feature-length documentary on the rise of the Virginia wine industry.

Saturday, February 23rd

9:00 - 10:00 AM  /  Tasting 101 with Tassie Pippert
Learn or revisit the basics of wine tasting and wine appreciation with JMU Hart School of Hospitality professor and wine and culinary expert, Tassie Pippert.

9:00 - 10:00 AM  /  On Being Bacchus: An Enophile's Take on Art and Wine
Bill Wightman, JMU professor of Art and Art Education, talks about the intersection of wine and art including archaeology, art history, and aesthetics.

10:30 - 11:30 AM  /  Blending Workshop 
Winemaker Lee Hartman of Bluestone Vineyard will discuss the key elements of blending wine varietals in this hands-on seminar. Leave the session with a growler of your own wine blend.

1:00 - 5:00 PM  The Grand Tasting
Taste from 8 of Shenandoah Valley's best vineyards: Barren Ridge, Bluestone Vineyard, Brix and Columns, Cave Ridge, CrossKeys, Muse, Rockbridge, Ox Eye Vineyards.

1:30 - 2:30 PM  /  Rosé Is the New Chardonnay 
Taste and learn about Rosé, the fastest growing wine in the US with Jim Koennicke of Breaux Vineyards.

1:30 - 2:30 PM  /  From South Africa to Central Virginia - CANCELLED
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel this session due to an unforeseen family emergency. Please join Jim Koennike in his session about Rose happening at the same time!

3:00 - 4:00 PM  /  Vertical Tasting
Taste 3 vintages of Cave Ridge Petit Verdot side by side and learn about vintage variation and aging wines with Randy Phillips of Cave Ridge.

3:00 - 4:00 PM  /  Wine Trivia & Discovery
Test your knowledge and learn much more about wine.  Discover how wine has become such a big deal in our world.  Individuals or groups will play wine trivia with each question focusing on an important event or person in the life of wine.  Brad Roof, JMU Professor, Certified Wine Professional (CIA), French Wine Scholar, and Certified Specialist of Wine.

7:00 PM  /  Winemaker's Dinner $
A 5-course Virginia wine pairing dinner prepared by Hotel Madison and JMU Hart School of Hospitality culinary teams. The evening will start with an appetizer and paired wine reception, selected and prepared by Hart School of Hospitality culinary students with the oversite of JMU Professor Tassie Pippert. The meal will continue, featuring two small plate courses such as a soup and salad, followed by an entree and dessert.

Sunday, February 24th

10:30 AM  /  Champagne Brunch $
Join the master of the "methode champenoise" Claude Thibaut for a coursed meal, paired with the finest Virginia sparkling wine and Champagne. Monsieur Thibaut will be on-hand to describe each wine and its pairing.

1:00 - 2:30 PM  /  Riedel Tasting Seminar $
Riedel, The Wine Glass Company, will be on site for a tasting seminar. Price includes a set of 4 Riedel wine glasses and will feature the wines of Bluestone Vineyard.
