Things to Do in Shenandoah Valley

No matter the season, Harrisonburg offers year-round activities for the entire family. With abundant choices for dining, shopping, and local entertainment, there is always something to do in Shenandoah Valley.

Spring

  • Go shopping at Agora Market in downtown Harrisonburg. A multi-shop cooperative with a retro vibe, Agora Market features local goods ranging from clothing and housewares to jewelry and hardware.
  • Grab some hiking boots and explore the trails, waterfalls and breathtaking views of Shenandoah National Park
  • Learn something new at one of downtown Harrisonburg's many one-of-a-kind museums.

Summer

  • Spend the day at the annual Rockingham County Fair this August to explore fairgrounds filled with entertainment including tractor pulls, grandstand concerts, variety shows and more.
  • Hang out at Shenandoah Joe for a fresh cup of coffee and a casual space to enjoy a good book or get some work done.
  • Explore downtown Harrisonburg, savor local food and drink, stop into locally-owned shops and take in the beautifully restored architecture. 

Fall

  • Celebrate the fall harvest season Back Home at the Farm! Enjoy a corn maze, 7-acre pumpkin patch, wagon rides, pig races, and more.
  • Spend your Saturday at the John C. Wells Planetarium at James Madison University. Offering free public shows every Saturday from August - June, stop in to hear live seasonal star talks or join a family show designed for families with young children. 

Winter

  • Throw on some skates and spend the holidays' ice skating in Generations Park. The rink opens on Thanksgiving Day and runs through the first weekend in March.
  • Take advantage of the winter weather and hit the slopes to ski, snowboard and snow tube at Massanutten.
